Trainer Richard Fahey left confused by Queen Kindly's Newmarket run

The Malton handler is hoping the winner of York’s Lowther Stakes winner simply had an off-day when finishing a well-beaten fourth, six lengths behind the 25-1 winner Brave Anna, in the Group One over six furlongs.

The daughter of Frankel had only been half-a-length adrift of the same filly in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and she had beaten Cheveley Park runner-up Roly Poly in the Group Two at York last month.

Fahey said: “She seems fine – she’s eaten up and she’s trotted up well. There are no problems with her at all. For whatever reason, she didn’t fire. It looks like she might just have had an off-day – I’m hoping so, but I haven’t given up faith in her.”

The Aidan O’Brien pair of Brave Anna and Roly Poly fought out the finish after Frankie Dettori’s mount Lady Aurelia failed to maintain her early pace.

The filly’s perplexed American trainer Wesley Ward believes to have found out why she tied up so dramatically in the final 50 yards.

“It was a head-scratcher and disappointing, but when we got back to the barn the vet scoped her and she ended up having bled with a score of three out of five, which, in a Group One, is enough to get you beat.”
