Treaty of Paris gets chance to impress

It comes after Doyle partnered Henry Candy’s colt to victory in the Acomb Stakes at York’s Ebor festival and £50,000 is on offer to the winner of this seven-furlong test first run in 1823.

“He’s owned by an enthusiastic team of owners who were determined to supplement him and who am I to stop them? It’s their money,” said Candy.

“The horse is very well and I’m happy to give it a go.

“Being very cautious I was going to go for another Group Three but quite rightly they said he’d have a 3lb penalty and why give everybody a length and a half start, so that’s what we’re doing,” he said.

“He was very gutsy at York and James took the view that if anything had threatened to head him he would find a little more.

“It’s a hard thing to do to make all at York and I thought he put up a good performance there,” added Candy.

The race has lost some of its lustre after Paul Cole withdrew his Royal Ascot winner Berkshire but Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has high hopes for his Outstrip.

Narrowly beaten at Glorious Goodwood, Outstrip holds an entry in next month’s Grade One Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster and Appleby declared: “I am very happy with him and I think he is the horse to beat.”
