The exciting prospect made a winning debut at York last July before David Allan’s mount landed the Group Three Acomb Stakes at the Ebor festival on the Knavesmire.

He could even return to York for next month’s Dante Stakes, one of the key trials for the Derby itself.

“He’s in good order. We’ve just paid nine grand to put him in the Derby,” said Great Habton-based Easterby.

“He might have a run before the Dante, but I don’t know where.

“I can’t find an obvious race to run him in. He’s in the French Derby as well.

“It’s possible the Dante might be his first run. The back-end of the season will be his time.”

He added: “We don’t have to give him a racecourse gallop. We’ve got good facilities here.

“The races we’re looking at are the Dante, French Derby, Derby and the Leger. We’ve just got Aidan O’Brien’s battalion to look out for.”

This is reflected by O’Brien including Saxon Warrior – the ante-post Derby favourite – in the list of entries for the Dante. The Group Two contest has been won by 10 subsequent Epsom Derby heroes, with Golden Horn the last horse to complete the York-Epsom double in 2015.

Racing Post Trophy winner Saxon Warrior is one of 20 colts entered by Irish handler Aidan O’Brien who has won the race at the Surrey racetrack on four occasions.

Meanwhile, Enable is the standout name among 16 nominated for the Middleton Stakes on the same afternoon.

Last year’s winner of the Epsom, Irish and Yorkshire Oaks then won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for trainer John Gosden and jockey Frankie Dettori. Her targets are Ascot’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, York’s Juddmonte International and the Arc.

Participation in the Middleton Stakes will be based on whether it enhances the objectives set for Prince Khalid Abdullah’s champion.
