SHEFFIELD STEELERS head into the opening weekend of the Elite League play-offs determined to defend their post-season crown and crown a magnificent season by sealing the double.

Gerad Adams’s team sealed the regular season league championship - a fourth for the club in the EIHL era - with a 2-1 win against Cardiff Devils, who finished third behind Braehead Clan.

Adams came in last season and led the Steelers to play-off success with a dramatic overtime victory against Belfast Giants thanks to Drew Fata’s stunning strike.

It was a fourth play-off success for the South Yorkshire club in the Elite League following earlier triumphs in 2004, 2008 and 2009.
