Video: Steelers look to spring surprise on Devils

The South Wales club visit the Motorpoint Arena tonight before both clubs head down to Cardiff to resume hostilities for their second league date in as many days.

Both teams have enjoyed success in each other’s rinks this season, both games ending 3-2 when they met in the group phase of the Challenge Cup, the Steelers going on to top the standings.

After the Steelers extended their unbeaten start to their Elite League schedule with a 6-3 triumph over Dundee Stars on Wednesday, head coach Adams admitted his team needed to perform better against his former club than in the shoot-out defeat suffered at the Devils’ hands at the Motorpoint Arena last month.

“That was our worst performance of the year so far and we acknowledged that,” said Adams, who is still missing Rob Dowd (hand) and Pascal Morency (concussion) this weekend, but has been boosted by the temporary signing of GB international defenceman Ben O’Connor, who arrived yesterday after being released by his club in Kazakhstan earlier in the week.

Forward Colton Fretter is also back after serving a one-game suspension in midweek.

“But we’ve improved since and we’ve got a lot of things up our sleeve and are always adapting our game.

“We’ve changed things since the last time we played them, we know their weaknesses, although they probably think they know ours as well.”
