Here are some of the events it has affected:

FOOTBALL

Liverpool and Fulham will be forced to use alternative methods to travel to Spain and Germany respectively for their Europa League semi-finals. Liverpool will use road and rail to reach Bordeaux before flying the rest of the way to Madrid, while Fulham have chartered a private jet to make the trip to Hamburg on Wednesday morning, while also making contingency plans via bus and rail should that plan not work. Referee Steve Bennett, who was supposed to take charge of the Manchester derby, remains stranded in Romania after a FIFA event.

FORMULA ONE

Jenson Button won the Grand Prix in China, then teams were facing delays when leaving the country and getting their cars back to their home factories. Several drivers have taken the opportunity to go on holiday, but teams face an anxious wait while they work out how to get to Spain in plenty of time for the grand prix in Barcelona on May 9.
