Two more England bronzes came in the lawn bowls and went to the men's triples team of Mark Bantock, Rob Newman and Graham Shadwell and the women's triples team of Sian Gordon, Sandy Hazell and Jamie-Lea Winch.

Millar's bronze came in a road race that Isle of Man star Mark Cavendish had been favourite to win.

But Cavendish, winner of 15 Tour de France stages in three seasons, lost touch with the leaders on the final lap.

Australia's Allan Davis triumphed ahead of Hayden Roulston of New Zealand with Millar third.

Heading had to beat Australian double Olympic champion Michael Diamond 147-146 to earn his gold in the men's single trap.

Heading missed his opening target but recovered well and missed only two more on his way to victory.

Earlier Mick Gault's bid to become the most medalled Commonwealth Games athlete came to an end when he finished fourth in the men's 25m centre fire pistol competition.

Gault, from Sheffield, was involved in a shoot-off after finishing equal second on 574 with three others behind Harpreet Singh, who won gold for India with a score of 580.

But, after scoring zero with the second of his five shots, he had a malfunction with his gun and chose not to continue.

Gault, who won a silver medal with Nick Baxter in the men's 10m air pistol pairs on Thursday, has 16 Games medals, two short of Australian record holder Phillip Adams.

He is entered for two more events and a medal in both would enable him to equal Adams's haul before retiring at the end of the Games.

Archer Williamson added individual silver to her team recurve silver after she lost 6-0 to Indian favourite Deepika Kumari.
