Warrington Wolves 32 Wakefield Trinity 16: Riley grabs hat-trick as Wildcats fall to defeat

Engage super league: Chris Riley scored a hat-trick as Warrington Wolves returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Warrington – whose three-game winning streak came to an end against St Helens last week – were clearly the superior side in the first half with Riley twice going over in the left corner and further tries for Chris Bridge and Ryan Atkins.

Tries from Michael Korkidas and Aaron Murphy gave the visitors hope of a second-half comeback.

But, despite Sam Obst's crossing for Wakefield, the hosts overran their opponents with Riley claiming his third try, Atkins grabbing a second and Bridge adding a conversion to his three successful kicks in the first half.

Warrington got the ideal start with Riley scooting over in the left corner after just three minutes.

The Wolves were in control with Riley's two tries and Bridge's converted effort, Aaron Murphy and Korkidas replying for Wakefield. Paul Cooke's conversion of the latter leaving them six points adrift.

Cooke was making his full debut after signing from Hull Kingston Rovers earlier in the month.

But with seconds left in the half Atkins got a hand to Simon Grix's grubber kick and Bridge converted.

Riley completed his hat-trick minutes after the break before Atkins crossed in the corner.

Wakefield's Obst waltzed over for a try before Cooke added the extras.

But it was of no consequence to the outcome as the forlorn faces of the visitors at the final whistle revealed.
