We are responding to Levein – Robson

SCOTLAND: Middlesbrough midfielder Barry Robson is convinced Scotland will improve under Craig Levein despite the scare against Liechtenstein.

After contrasting friendly results against Czech Republic and Sweden, Levein has started his competitive reign with four points from two matches.

The tally from an away trip to Lithuania and home game with Liechtenstein was probably what most Scotland fans would have anticipated.

However, Scotland needed 97 minutes to find a winner against the team ranked 141st in the world as Stephen McManus spared a nation’s blushes by heading home to seal a 2-1 win.

Robson offered assurances that his former Dundee United manager was improving the team’s confidence and shape.

“When he walks into the room, he has presence,” said Robson. “He knows what he is talking about, he is good on the game. The boys are responding well to him.

“You need to remember where we were before he took over. The confidence was low. He is trying to build confidence back into the team.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day. We are looking a lot more solid, a lot stronger unit.

“We have got four points by not playing particularly well and that can only be a good sign.”
