Wharfedale lay early platform for victory

Wharfedale beat Darlington Mowden Park 45-21 after romping into a 24-0 half-time lead.

The Darlington forwards looked strong for a lengthy period of the second half and with the gap narrowed to 31-21 looked for a bonus try and to get even closer. A breakaway try from Dan Tai seemed to finish them off and another quick attack from Dale led to a penalty try and gave Wharfedale a comfortable victory.

Ali Wade opened the scoring for Dale. Jamie Guy kicked the first of his conversions reaching 100 per cent on the day.

Ionians hit back with a penalty from a scrum infringement and Aquile Smith dashed through to make it 8-12.

Coventry – restored to 15 men following an earlier sin-binning – slotted over two penalties to make it 8-18 at half time.

Ionians replied with a Foden try, but Coventry eased the pressure somewhat with a penalty on 72 minutes which put them two scores ahead, meaning that although Isaac Green matched it with two minutes left, it only served to give them a losing bonus point where they could’ve grabbed the win.
