Wigan Athletic v Hull City: Vennegor looking forward to rare start

JAN VENNEGOOR OF HESSELINK will today try to push his case to start for Hull City in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old striker is expected to be named in the starting line-up for the first time since October as manager Phil Brown rotates his squad in time for the FA Cup trip to Wigan Athletic.

Vennegoor of Hesselink said: "Of course it is frustrating but you do everything you do when you come on.

"Everyone wants to play 90 minutes but it is not always the case and you have to accept that.

"But it is a great league and I am really enjoying playing games in the Premier League."

Vennegoor of Hesselink joined Hull as a free agent in September after being released by Celtic and has since gone on to score twice, the first coming in a 2-1 victory over Wigan.

A repeat against the Latics today would be very welcome to a striker who admits to looking forward to his first taste of the

FA Cup.

He said: "I always looked at the FA Cup as a young boy on TV in Holland.

"The Cup is much bigger here. It is something traditional.

"It is my first sniff of it and I am looking forward to it.

"It's great to say you've played in the FA Cup."

Another player who has fallen out of favour in recent months is Steven Mouyokolo, the French defender having played just one minute – against Wigan in October at the KC Stadium – since starting four of the first five games this season.

The summer signing from Boulogne said: "When you like to play you cannot be happy to be sat in the stand or on the bench.

"That is disappointing but it is the gaffer's decision.

"But I'm happy here. I feel good, training good, the body is good and the mind is good.

"All I need to do is work and I am happy to stay here."
