Wilson plays it cool in order to return to saddle

ENDURING sub-zero temperatures will have helped Northallerton’s Nicola Wilson make a quick return from injury ahead of the Burgham Horse Trials this week.

Wilson broke her collarbone following a fall in February but is progressing well after surgery having visited Moulton College to use its cryotherapy chamber where she had to endure temperatures of –144 C.

Wilson also had a session of hydrotherapy using the water treadmill.

Wilson said: “I’m so grateful to the UK Sport-funded World Class Equestrian Programme that is overseeing my rehabilitation to ensure that I am back riding and competing as soon as possible.”

Wilson has Annie Clover, Bulana, One Two Many and Watermill Vision entered for action at Burgham which begins on Friday and will be joined by Huddersfield’s world No 2 Oliver Townend, who has already enjoyed three wins this season and took 10 horses to Lincolnshire last weekend where Armada was 16th on his seasonal debut in the Open Intermediate class.

The event is open to the public between 6pm and 7pm with sellers setting up at 5.15pm. There is a cost of £5 to book a table and pre-booking is advised.
