Winless streaks end for both Doncaster and Carnegie

There were few signs of Carnegie having any trouble overhauling the Welsh outfit they defeated 85-0 a week earlier when three tries from Jonah Holmes and a fourth from David McIlwaine gave them a 24-0 lead after as many minutes.

However, the consecutive sin binnings of Charlie Beech and Chris Walker meant they played 20 minutes with a man less and that halted their momentum.

Tries either side of half time before a brilliant piece of finishing from winger Steff Andrews brought the hosts to within two points of Yorkshire.

Carnegie replied when replacement Josh Bainbridge spotted a gap and powered through from close range.

Georgiou missed the conversion before Andrews intercepted the ball on his own 22 and go the full length of the field to score.

Damjanovic added the conversion to level the score at 29-29 with 10 minutes to go.

The next score was going to be crucial and thankfully for the visitors it came their way as they kept their composure and spread the ball wide for Holmes to score his fourth try.

Georgiou added the conversion but Aberavon refused to throw in the towel and kicked a penalty through Damjanovic with five minutes to go.

It was not until Dan Tai crossed in the final minute that the result was secured and Georgiou kicked the conversion to make the final score 43-32.

Doncaster Knights ended a four-game losing streak last night with a narrow 17-15 win away at Bedford Blues.

The South Yorkshire side ensured their perfect record in the British and Irish Cup remained intact with a determined display at Goldington Road.

An early penalty from winger Dougie Flockhart was followed by a penalty try after some powerful scrum play to establish a 10-point lead for the Knights.

The hosts hit back with a score of their own courtesy of Hayden Thompson-Stringer before half-time though full back James Pritchard was unable to add the extras.

The Knights were forced to play up the infamous Goldington Road slope for the second period but despite this increased their lead early on when Paul Jarvis collected a loose pass to run in from just inside his own half.

A superb touchline conversion from Flockhart ensured a seven-point score.

The Blues fought back as the game head into the latter stages. A penalty from Pritchard was quickly followed by a try from centre Harry Staff.

The Knights were also reduced to 14 men when scrum half Tomasi Palu was sin binned for a no arm tackle.

Trailing by just two points the Blues went in search of victory but the Knights resolute defence held on to secure the win and their place at the top of Pool Four.
