Winning run goes on for No 1 Willstrop

SQUASH: Newly-crowned world No 1 James Willstrop stretched his unbeaten run to 16 matches by seeing off rival Karim Darwish in his opening game of the PSA World Series Finals in London.

The 28-year-old, from Leeds, beat his Egyptian opponent 11-6 11-5 in just 26 minutes and will today face Mohamed El Shorbagy in the second of his round robin Group 1 matches with a place in Saturday’s semi-finals at stake.

“It’s great to beat a top player like Karim 2-0,” said Willstrop. “To get this first threat out of the way and to do so well is a great start.”
