Woolhouse gets his chance to perform

ICE HOCKEY: Sheffield Steelers’ player-coach Ben Simon has full confidence in reserve netminder Geoff Woolhouse stepping up for tonight’s Elite League game at Hull Stingrays (7.30).

The opportunity has come about for Woolhouse – who will also face former club Nottingham on Saturday – due to first-choice netminder Ervins Mustukovs being away on international duty with Latvia.

“I am looking forward to Jeff playing and everyone on this team is confident he will do a great job,” said Simon, whose team will look to stretch their lead at the top of the table to five points with an 11th straight win.

Hull coach Sylvain Cloutier is hoping defenceman Drew Bannister will be back from injury.
