YM get off the mark with Stead on target as super Tigers run riot

Huddersfield YMCA recorded their first win of 2015 after securing a bonus-point 32-10 success at home to Rossendale.

Going into the game, the hosts were on a run of four successive defeats, with their last victory coming in December with a
56-26 thumping of bottom club Beverley.

YMCA got the start they were looking for with an early converted try, only to see that lead cut by a score out wide from the visitors.

Full-back Gavin Stead’s penalty pushed the lead back out to five points, only for Rossendale to hit back again with their second try levelling the scores. A second try from YMCA restored the five-point cushion and the next score looked set to prove vital.

YM repelled some pressure before centre Adam Ryder cut through for a third try which took the score to 22-10.

A further penalty from Stead secured the all-important extra point and capped a deserved fifth victory of the season, which moves them five places off the bottom of the table.

Sheffield Tigers ran riot in the second half to inflict a 50-3 defeat on visitors Wirral at Dore Moor to move just two points behind second-placed Sandal.
