York deservedly fall to Dempster's goal

York City 0 Kettering Town 1

York City could have no complaints about losing to Kettering Town at Bootham Crescent, the visitors proving far more dangerous in a fast and entertaining contest.

The hosts had striker Mark Beesley, on loan from Fleetwood, making his debut in place of England C international Michael Gash.

Both sides concentrated on attack with Peter Till looking dangerous on the right for York and Serge Makofo likewise on Kettering’s left flank.

Paul Furlong, through on his own, chipped wide with only Michael Ingham to beat and York went close when James Meredith crossed and Brett Solkhon headed over his own bar but knew little about it.

Kettering went ahead on 51 minutes when Danny Parslow was penalised and yellow-carded for fouling Makofo and Jean-Paul Marna’s free-kick saw centre-back John Dempster head in at the far post.

A great save by Kelvin Jack prevented Parslow from equalising and then Lawless had a fierce shot blocked. York missed a great chance 10 minutes from time when Jonathan Smith shot wide.
