Yorkshire Carnegie 33 Cornish Pirates 26: Redpath delight at maximum

Yorkshire Carnegie head coach Bryan Redpath admitted he was 'delighted' as his side inflicted Cornish Pirates' first league defeat since November, reaffirming their own play-off credentials.

The home side scored five tries in total, including two from winger Seb Stegmann, to claim maximum points.

Former Scotland international Redpath said: “We’re back on track in terms of getting five points on the board which was great. We mixed up our game and scored some good tries as well and that was important. I’m delighted as they (Cornish Pirates) have had a really good run of form as well.”

Carnegie drew first blood with the opening try out wide through former London Welsh flyer Stegmann.

However, Pirates raced into the lead when they built a 13-point advantage but Carnegie responded immediately with an Andy Saull try from what has been the most potent of attacking threats this season, the driving maul.

The third was virtually identical to the second. This time it was Charlie Beech who dotted down and Harry Leonard again added the extras.

Stegman’s second ensured Carnegie kept their noses in front at the start of the second half and Redpath’s men made sure of the five points when a series of off-loads allowed Jonah Holmes to slide in at the corner.
