Yorkshire golf: Alex Fitzpatrick denies Ben Firth as five White Rose men march into last 32 at Ganton

England Under-16 international Fitzpatrick's 3&1 success denied Firth a second Yorkshire scalp of the day, the Moortown man having beaten Fulford's Craig Smith by two holes in the morning.

Dan Brown, former Dutch Junior Open champion, made his way convincingly into the third round with a 4&3 defeat of Trentham's Gian-Marco Petrozzi, who last month came fourth in the Brabazon Trophy won by Meltham's Jamie Bower.

Cookridge Hall's Tom Broxup had been Yorkshire's highest qualifier, tied 10th, but he fell at the first match play hurdle, beaten 2&1 by Cavendish's George Bloor, who recently finished sixth in the Scottish stroke play championship.
