Yorkshire golf: Alex Fitzpatrick goes low for third-place finish in Carris Trophy

HALLAMSHIRE's Alex Fitzpatrick made a bold attempt to lift the Carris Trophy by firing a final round 67 at Hunstanton.

But the England Under-16 international came up three shots short to take a creditable third place behind overnight leader Angus Flanagan (St George’s Hill) and Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen.

The Dane fired an incredible 10-under-par 62 for a 277 total but Flanagan, who closed with a 71 for the same aggregate, took the English boys’ open amateur stroke play championship title on the second hole of a play-off.

Fulford’s Charlie Thornton (72 71 73 70) finished eighth and Wakefield’s Daniel Bradbury 41st with a final round of 79 after scores of 72 76 71.

Fitzpatrick did not have a blemish on his fourth-round card, following birdies at the third and ninth with three in a row from the 15th.

Thornton was three under and heading for a round in th 60s, but after birdies at five, six and 13 he bogeyed his penultimate hole.

Bradbury could only find one birdie in his final round and his card was marred by three bogeys plus one double and a triple.
