Yorkshire golf: Clayton's Sam Wainman goes low to claim Bracken Ghyll's Junior Open honours

Bracken Ghyll Junior Open winnerr Sam Wainman is presented with his prize by club captain Richard Beilby and Giles Blackburn, chairman of sponsor, Addingham Beer Festival.

Playing off 28, Wainman won by three shots from three home club players, who all shot 66.

On count back, Findlay Robertson (77-11-66) was second, Findlay Grimshaw (87-21-66) third and Henry Croft (70-4-66) fourth.

Fifth, two shots further back, was The Bradford's Tom Pullman (79-11-68).

Croft took the best gross prize while Pullman was nearest the pin at the fifth hole.

Ghyll's Freddie Paxton took the nearest the pin prize at the 13th and Northcliffe's Hannah Chaudry at the 17th.

The Bradford's Harry Goodison hit the longest drive.

Ghyll's Debbie Richardson celebrated her second victory of the season by lifting the prestigious Lady Harriet Nelson Bowl with a net 76 off 25.

The Bowl was presented in the 1920s by Lady Harriet Nelson of Gledstone Hall, a Ghyll member and wife of Sir Amos Nelson, a textile magnate.

Anne Preston (106-28- 78) and Rosemary Fort (111-32- 79) were second and third respectively.

Harry Ayton comfortably won his first junior competition at Ghyll by taking the Stephen Town Memorial Trophy with 45pts, ahead of runner-up Josh Carlos (41) and third-placed Spencer Datkiewicz (38).

More than 30 Ghyll golfers accompanied captain Alec Russell on the trip to Worsley Park where Craig Lemon (40pts) took the individual prize ahead of Stewart Airdrie (37), with Steve Mortimer (34) and Kevin Honeyman (33) completing the placings.

Lemon and Airdrie had earlier partnered Carl Hillary to glory in the team competition from Anthony Foulger, Ian Graham and Maurice Hendleman.
