Yorkshire golf - club news: Neil Walker excels to win Rotherham GC Pro's Stableford event

Second place went to Ian Booth on 39 points, three ahead of Graham Dobbs in third.

Division One honours in Rotherham's March Medal went to Matthew Woolley with a net 67, one ahead of Craig Billups and two ahead of third-placed Charlie Daughtrey.

Division Two saw Mark Fletcher card a net 73 to claim first place, Peter Jones and Kevin Whitehead both coming in with a 74.

Both Woolley and Fletcher qualify for the Gold Medal final on Sunday, May 15.

Scarborough South Cliff GC's men's March Stableford competition saw Paul Johnson produce two equal halves of 20pts each to win by one point from Paul Baker. David Purvis also had 39pts but was edged into third on countback.

David Purvis (11) posted a fine net 66 in the Medal only to be edged into second place by Callum Chaplin (14) after count back.

Purvis had carded no fewer than 14 gross pars with a double bogey on the 15h his only real mistake.

Chaplin had a much more up-and-down round, but three gross birdies made the difference, albeit he also had difficulties at the 15th where he carded a triple bogey seven.

Third place was claimed by immediate past captain Alan Baldwin (14) who handed in a net 68 after a neat and tidy round.

Filey GC played their March Mid-Week Medal Qualifier and three players handed in cards with scores of net 71.

Count back decided the placings with first spot going to Liam McLachlan (5), whose 76 was also the best gross score on the day.

Martin Dixon (8) took second place leaving Mike Thornton (12) in third and regretting a double bogey on the last.

West Bradford GC's new captain Mick Gration - nephew of Look North broadcaster Harry - drove himself in as he took over from predecessor Colin Green.

Crow Nest Park GC's new captains drove in on Saturday before heading a fun nine-hole Texas scramble.

The gloomy skies and rain did not dampen the spirits although the captains' trousers were not quite as dazzlingly white at the end of the round as they had been for the drive in photographs.

The captains who were ceremoniously clapped into the clubhouse in the evening, where new blazers were donned, were seniors' captain Thomas Dow, lady captain Gwyn Greenberry, junior captain Harry Mowl, men's captain Barry Seymour and Rabbits' captain Mark Pearson.

Forest of Galtres GC's men's and lady captains, Pete Kolton and Debbie Martin, also drove themselves in on Saturday and both hit fine shots in testing conditions.
