The first of the Two Tall Gentlemen last-four ties saw father and son George and Alistair Auterson take on Steve Tosney and Steve Thompson, the Autersons eventually winning on the 23rd hole.

The second father and son combination in the last eight, Alex and Will Mawson, did not progress as David Anderson and Mark Vaughan got the better of them after two extra holes.

The remaining quarter-final, still to be played, will pit Chris Jones and Peter Rishworth against Alan Lancaster and Steve Cain.

The competition, which started back in October and involved around 60 pairs playing 10 qualifying rounds to get into the match play stages, derives its name from its first year when it was set up on temporary tees and greens by two tall gentlemen.

Drax GC's first official competition of the new season, on April 2, will be played on a new layout that was proposed and agreed at an EGM last November.
