Yorkshire golf - club round-up: Leeds League are crowned Yorkshire 8 to 15 champions

THE Leeds League, represented by a joint team of Horsforth GC and Scarthingwell GC, lifted the Grand Yorkshire 8 to15 Champions title at Lindrick GC.

The event brings together the winners of the counties 8 to 15 Leagues from Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate and South Yorkshire to contest the honour of becoming the county champions.

Very windy day conditions made scoring tough, but Horsforth/Scarthingwell produced some excellent golf and their four pairs registered a 158pt total to place themselves three ahead of hosts Lindrick, outh Yorkshire's champions.

Baildon (Bradford) were third with 147 while Oakdale (Harrogate) were just outside the medal positions with 140.

Rotherham GC's Thursday April Medal saw victory in Division One for Shane Gent with a net 70, one ahead of Charlie Daughtrey and Darren Hufton.

Division Two was won by Jim Hind with a ntt 70, Stuart Walters was second with a net 74, and Peter Robert Thompson took third.The Saturday April saw Matthew King's net 69 pip Robert James Brown on countback, both one ahead of third-placed Gary John Leng.

Division Two was won with a 72 by John Higginbottom, with Samuel Humphries in second and John Leslie Slack third.

The Captain's Charity Am-Am was won by Peter Daughtrey, Peter Clarke, Paul Miller and Roger Tranter with a score of 77.

Branshaw GC's Brian Wilson won the Andrew Oakes Memorial Trophy with a fine 39pt tally at Harrogate GC.

The competition is named in honour of Andrew Oakes, a long standing stalwart of the Branshaw's seniors section, known as the TOFFS, which has a membership of around 50, and play every Thursday throughout the year.

Ronnie Sands has scored his first hole-in-one, at the 18th hole at Branshaw.

David Anderson and Mark Vaughan beat George and Alistair Auterson to earn their place in the final of Bracken Ghyll GC's Winter League, in which they will face Simon Thomas and Graham Philpin.

Saturday's Pro Series 4 was won by Gregory Sutcliffe (42), five clear of Simon Heathcote.

The men's weekday Stableford Division competition was won by Alan Pritchard 39, two points ahead of Michael Duke, Stephen Tindall and David Coates.

Michael Lord edged the Division Two honours with 41pts by one from David John Roberts .

Filey GC's Greenwood Cup, open to players in the 16-28 bracket, was won by Tom Barkley, who shot an excellent 92-26-66 to win by two shots from John Rhodes (88-20-68). Kevin Vasey (88-18-70) was third.

Barkley's handicap has fallen by three shots shots in a week with two wins. He also won Division Three of the monthly medal with the same net score off his previous handicap of 28.

Division One winner was Gary Marflitt (73-8-65) ahead of Ian McKaig (73-7-66) and Neil Cammish (79-10-69).

Martin Waite-Pullan was the Division Two winner (85-18-67), two shots in front of Brynn Kneeshaw (82-13-69) with Michael Jack third (85-15-70).

Filey's seniors began their matches after two cancellations due to weather, drawing 4-4 at home to a strong Hornsea GC team and beating Driffield GC away 5.5-2.5.

Halifax West End GC's ladies team have reached the fourth round of the 2016 Mail on Sunday Club Classic.

West End followed a bye in round one by defeating Elland GC 4-1 at home. In the third round West End secured victory in the final match against Queensbury GC to progress 3-2, and they will travel to Headingley GC in the next round.

Castlefields GC's Division One Stableford winner medal was Darren Brown. He carded an impressive 44pts but had to rely on count back to get the better of David Bartliff.

John Lynch won the Division Two flight with the same score, by one point from Alex McSheffrey.
