Yorkshire golf: Dan Brown shoots level-par 72 around Old Course in St Andrews Links Trophy

Brown went out in two under par on the Old Course on Saturday, thanks to birdies at holes four and six, and came home in two over, shedding shots at both the 12th and 13th.

Following an opening 69 on the New Course, he is on two-under-par 141, a shot better than Hull's Steve Robins.

Robins added a 70 to his opening 72 with three birdies and a bogey in his round.

He was two under through 16 holes, dropped his only shot of the day at the 17th, but regained it at his final hole.

The Oaks' James Walker was also on 142 (70 72) and would have been the leading Yorkshireman only to follow a bogey at 16 with a double bogey at the notorious Road Hole.

Meltham's Jamie Bower is one back of him with scores of 70 73.

The England international was one under with a birdie at the fourth and 16 pars, but took double bogey six at the last.

Rotherham's Jonathan Thomson is on 149 (70 79), his second round getting off to a difficult start with four consecutive dropped shots.

He birdied the fifth and added another at the start of his homeward run, but it offered false promise.

Bogeys at 11 and 17 sandwiched a painful triple bogey eight at the 14th.

Shipley's Will Whiteoak added 81 to Friday's 72. He opened with a birdie, but dropped four shots through three holes from the fifth and three more on the spin from the 11th.

A double bogey at 16 and a single at 17 made for an inward 42.

Ireland's Conor O'Rourke leads by a shot on nine-under-par 134 (65 69).
