Yorkshire golf: David Hague doubles up to place hands on Vardon Grip Trophy

MALTON & Norton's David Hague won his second Yorkshire Order of Merit title in just over a fortnight as he triumphed in the Vardon Grip Trophy.

He carded rounds of 68 69 for a 137 aggregate at Harrogate to win by three shots from Fulford's James Cass (73 67).

Hague, winner of the Pannal Rose Bowl last month, said: "The course was fantastic and this is the best run competition on the Yorkshire Order of Merit circuit."

Cass took second place on count back from Otley's George Muscroft (68 72).

Moortown's Ben Firth was fourth (71 70) and Carus Green's Adam Chapman - the inaugural winner of an event now in its third year - was fifth (70 73).

The host club's David Keywood took the prize for the lowest morning round of 70, a score equalled by Josh Fox (Wilton), who had the best afternoon total.

Willow Valley's Captain's Day proved a big success and saw James Stephen win Mike Kenzitt's medal with an excellent 81-10-71 in tough, windy conditions, winning a Motocaddy trolley with accessories.

Mark Binns also scored a net 71 but finished runner-up on count back while third place went to Terry Dewing with a net 72.
