Yorkshire golf: Diane Higgins enjoys regal triumph at Crow Nest Park

CROW Nest Park's Diane Higgins will have been treated like royalty last year as the club's ladies captain.

In the first year following her 'reign', she has triumphed in Crow Nest Park's Jubilee Trophy.

The Jubilee Trophy was presented to the ladies section by life member Stephen Cockcroft in 2002, commemorating the Queen's Golden Jubilee year, and goes to the winner of the year's first medal.

Immediate past captain Higgins ruled over the 18-woman field with a net 80 from her 32 handicap.

Van Whitehill took second place with (93-81-12) and in third place was Janet Longbottom (103-22-81).

There can be no more daunting start to a match play tie than needing to hole in one at the first - for a half.

But that was the prospect that faced Derek Hornblower's opponents in the Lawrence Batley Seniors League Section D fixture between Lightcliffe and Blackley.

Hornblower aced the 145-yard first hole and lit the fuse on a stunning 8-0 win against reigning champions Blackley.

Elsewhere in the section, Low Laithes maintained a hot pace with a 6-2 home win over Huddersfield, while Queensbury again excelled, winning 6-2 at Bradley Hall.

In the final match, South Leeds compounded Wortley's poor start to the season with a 7-1 victory.

In Section A, Woodsome Hall, Crosland Heath and Halifax strengthened their positions in the table with solid home wins and South Bradford shocked Calverley with a 6-2 away victory.

In Section B, West End and Elland drew 4-4 in a rearranged match, and Elland went on to achieve another 8-0 home win to move to the top of the section.

Crow Nest Park defeated Silkstone 7-1 at home to maintain the pressure at the top, and the matches at Hebden Bridge - versus Branshaw - and Todmorden - versus West End -both ended 4-4.

Hanging Heaton moved to the top of Section C with a 7-1 home win over Meltham and there were wins for Ryburn, 5-3 away to Dewsbury District, and for Oldham, 5-3 at home to Bradley Park. Hosts Werneth shared the points with visiting Saddleworth.

Hornsea A lead the way in Division One of the East Riding Scratch League despite being held to a 2-2 tie by Hessle A.

Beverley A's 4-0 clean sweep at home to Cottingham leaves them second. Hull won 3-1 against visiting Bridlington.

Scarborough North Cliff are the Division Two front-runners, and saw off Springhead 4-0 at home.

They lead by two and a half points from Brough, who also used home advantage, against KP Club, to assert themselves with a 4-0 victory.

Beverley B won 2-15-1.5 at Hessle B and share third place with their hosts.

Hornsea B top Division Three, but only by half a point from Boothferry.

The former won 2.5-1.5 at home to Burstwick while Boothferry were held at home to a 2-2 tie by Ganstead Park.

Bridlington Links and Driffield also tied 2-2.

A mixed foursomes started things off, which attracted several generations of competitors ranging from the most junior, eight-year old Lucia Maturi, to Peter Reynard with almost 80 years between them
