Their disappointment of losing to the eventual runners-up Murrayfield was tempered by a strong final day's victory over the All Ireland champions Kilkenny to claim third spot.

Hallamshire had qualified for the finals after becoming English champions last autumn.

Also up against them at Antequera were the English runners-up Burhill and two teams from each of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the latter winning through the efforts of the team representing The Vale.

Hallamshire will now concentrate on building a squad to compete in this season's English event.
