Yorkshire golf: Jamie Bower's White Rose title up for grabs at Moortown

MELTHAM'S Jamie Bower will not be at Moortown to defend his Yorkshire amateur title as the championship gets underway on Tuesday.

Brabazon Trophy holder Bower is preparing for the US Amateur championship, which starts at Oakland Hills Country Club, in Michigan, next Monday.

Other absentees include new English men’s amateur champion Dan Brown (Masham) and The Oak’s James Walker, who are on Home Internationals duty at Nairn, and their Yorkshire county team-mate Jonathan Thomson (Rotherham), who has recently turned professional.

But there will still be an excellent field as one hundred and fifty competitors play two rounds over Moortown on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the leading 40 players and ties progressing to Thursday’s final two rounds.

Play gets underway at 7.10am and spectators are welcome.
