Yorkshire golf: Leeds Golf Centre again launch challenge for absolute beginners

Leeds Golf Centre will again stage their Up to Scratch Challenge, which will see 16 beginners to the game given lessons with the target of turning them into skilled players within a matter of weeks.

Applications can be made to take advantage of 14 free tuition sessions, to be staged over seven weeks with Leeds Golf Centre’s PGA professionals and certified David Leadbetter instructors.

The scheme will conclude with a knockout challenge at the centre, the UK headquarters of the prestigious Leadbetter Golf Academy.

Joe Feather, PGA professional and Leadbetter instructor, said: “We’re putting our expertise to the test for a second year running by demonstrating just what can be achieved under the tuition of our Leadbetter Golf Academy instructors. “We received an overwhelming number of entries to last year’s Up to Scratch Challenge and it’s a great pleasure to build on the success of the competition and create something even bigger and better this year.

“We are very passionate about making golf a more accessible sport to beginners and those considering taking up a new interest and believe our first-class facilities and world-class instruction provide an ideal environment to learn the game”.

Golfing novice Craig Bull from Seacroft, won the first Up to Scratch Challenge at Leeds Golf Centre in 2016.

To be in with a chance of taking part in the open age Up to Scratch Challenge, apply via Leeds Golf Centre’s Facebook page. Entries close on Friday, May 26 with first training sessions commencing on Tuesday, June 6.

Entrants must be over the age of 16 and a complete beginner to participate, and be available on agreed dates. All equipment will be included.
