She commented: "I had a certain amount of apprehension in accepting the position. I was conscious of the honour but also the recognition offered to the ladies. On their account I felt I should accept the invitation and I am delighted that I did.

"The position has been the icing on the cake of a journey in golf administration stretching nearly five decades. The ladies will understand when I say, I am looking forward to once again being a feather duster, although I will miss my parking space."
