Yorkshire golf: Matt Gibson plays 144 holes in half a day at Hillsborough

He played for just over 12 hours and lost only one ball, playing 663 shots in all.

Gibson's lowest round - his fourth - was 76 and his highest, his opening round, was 92.

He walked 36 miles approximately and was accompanied throughout by Phil Dooley, who had co-ordinated ball-spotting to aid Gibson's cause.

The money he raises will help Ward M3 at the hospital, which cares for children and teenagers with cancer and blood disorders.

His efforts have accumulated pledges of £1,287 via his Just Giving page.

On Friday, Hornsea’s Joe Palmer and East Riding match play champion Leigh Gawley will attempt to play 150 holes in a day to raise funds for CRY, a charity which works to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death.

Palmer and Gawley will undertake the marathon in memory of Hornsea schoolboy Josh Fell, who collapsed and died in 2011 from a previously undiagnosed heart condition.

Josh’s father, Richard, has campaigned tirelessly for the last five years to help provide heart screening for the young and has helped raise over £100,000.
