Yorkshire golf: Mel Watson holds major winner at bay to lift Willow Valley's Newton Trophy
She had to see off the challenge of Shaun Helliwell, already a major winner this year at the club, as he finished runner-up with 41.
Consolation for Helliwell is that he now holds a 30pt lead at the top of the Major Order of Merit.

Hide AdThe day resulted in a donation of £501.25 to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, with 76 of the members kind enough to contribute £5 as a charity donation, which was then topped up by the company.
Willow Valley's Medal 6, played in tough conditions, saw Terry Brushwood claim the first-class section honours with a 75 net 74. Adam Turner finished a close second, a shot adrift.
The second-class section was won with an excellent net 72 by Martin Howland, narrowly ahead of Darren Bakes who had a net 73.
Headingley's Steve Dennard and Graham Bond produced a fabulous net 60 to win Leeds and District Rabbits Golf Association's Tom Howard Memorial Trophy at Wike Ridge.

Hide AdDennard and Bond got off to a flying start on the first with Bond hitting a good drive and then a pitch shot that ran into the hole for a gross two, giving them a net albatross.
Twenty three clubs from the L&DRGA took part in the competition, a four ball better ball played from a 90 per cent handicap.
The trophy was sponsored by Tom Howard, a past member at Headingley, a former president of the L&DRGA and a president of the Yorkshire Rabbits Golf Association.
Hanging Heaton's Mick Ingham and Kevin Swift won the Thornton Trophy at Shipley, a competition run by the Yorkshire Rabbit Golf Association.

Hide AdBracken Ghyll's June monthly Stableford saw Division One honours claimed by Gavin Parker with 42pts, one clear of Chris Page. Stephen Hall was third on 39.
Division Two winner was Keith McLelland with 39, one better than Mark Hunter who in turn carded one more than third-placed Kevin Dixon.
