Yorkshire golf: Otley take team honours as Pannal scoop individual double

A weather warning that threatened torrential rain forced the competition committee to alter the playing format from 18 holes medal to gross and net Stableford.

Otley A, with Harrogate Union junior players Will Bradley and Daniel Clark-Coates in their ranks, triumphed with a score of 91.

They finished nine ahead of runners-up Rudding Park A, with Romanby A in third place, two further behind.

In the individual competitions, Pannal's Will Eardley won the Under-18 prize with 31pts, beating local lad Ryan Clark on count back.

Harry Mountford made it two out of two for Pannal by winning the Under-15 award with 28pts, one ahead of Harrogate's Jack Ward.

In the net team competition, Rudding Park A won the right to represent the Harrogate Union at the YIDU Junior Team Championship to be held at Hessle on August 25.

Ghyll's Roy Spragg is celebrating the third hole in one of his golfing career.

Playing in a three-man team senior competition alongside Ray Duckworth and Ken Wilkinson, Spragg aced the 175-yard par-3 hole known as County Brook using his seven wood.

His tee shot carried the beck guarding the front and side of the green and rolled up and into the cup, which was positioned very close to water.

His two previous successes, over 10 years ago and within weeks of each other, had been on County Brook and the 130-yard Curlew’s Cry hole.

Hanging Heaton bowed out in the fifth round of the Mail on Sunday five-man team competition, losing 3 – 2 away at Sandburn Hall.

Alan and Scott Colquhoun have reached the fifth round of Daily Mail Foursomes Competition by beating Michael Scarborough and Pete Edmondson, from Bingley St Ives, and after a very 3&2.

Hessle's Pro's Nine Hole Stableford was won by Luke Bell with 19pts, one ahead of both runner-up Tony Elder and third-placed Keith Ward.

The club's Invitation Day am-am saw Greg Tinker, Pat.Hooley, Dave Lowe and M Green triumph with a score of 131.

Terry Crompton and Charlie Hodges won the Pro's Better Ball event by two shots with a 64. 2nd Rob Watson and Steve Fairbank were second, a shot clear of Paul Harman and Paul Johnston.

Di and Nev Kingswood lifted the Frank Brown Trophy with a 66, three shots ahead of Heather and Neil Muir and five ahead of Joan and Steve Fairbank.
