Yorkshire golf: Reece Jennison and Gareth Evans enjoy success at Halifax-Huddersfield Alliance

SEVEN-handicapper Reece Jennison, of Halifax Bradley Hall GC, was an emphatic winner of Halifax-Huddersfield Alliance's Page Trophy at West End GC.

His second round net 64 was the lowest of the day and led to a 133-aggregate and a six-shot victory over club-mate Steve Sandie (5), who carded 67 72.

Professional Gareth Evans (Crow Nest Park GC) won the Colin Swain Trophy, his rounds of 69 68 for a 137 total placing him three shots clear of Huddersfield GC's Aron Schnacke (68 72) and five in front of third-placed Dave Astin, of Elland GC, who shot two rounds of 71.

The Emmie Smith Trophy for the best team went to Halifax Bradley Hall - comprising Jennison, Sandie and nine-handicapper Paul Caldwell - with a score of 418.

Crosland Heath GC were second (447) and Meltham GC third (449).

Third in the Page Trophy was James Dix (5), of West End GC, with 69 71, two ahead of Fergus Barron (2), of Dewsbury District (73 69).

The best amateur gross prize went to Adam Crum (1), also of Dewsbury District, with 69 75; best morning round, a 68, was shot by Crosland Heath GC's Lewis Collier (3), and the best afternoon round, 70, was produced by Crow Nest Park's Jacob Campbell (5).The 18-hole Roger Heap Cup was won by West End captain Mike Holroyde (7) with a net 66 following his best gross score at his home club.

In second place was Dave Mitcheson (14) of Bradley Park on 68, a good card spoiled only by a quadruple bogey on the 14th and a double on 17.

Third place went to Crow Nest's Mark Campbell (8), who played consistently to produce a 71.

Barry Isles was thanked for his efforts over many years as assistant and then secretary of the Alliance as he prepares to take a year's sabbatical. Simon Race, professional at Meltham, takes over as Alliance president for next season.

The Professionals Cup was presented to the joint Order of Merit winner James Ward, of Dewsbury District, who tied with the absent Rob Booth, of Crosland Heath, and the Club Championship Cup was won by Crow Nest Park.

The event had been in doubt due to the amount of water on the course, but sterling effort by West End's greenkeepers produced a basically dry course.

There was water in the rough and some greens had to be heavily sanded, resulting in inconsistent speed, but overall the course played well.
