Yorkshire golf: Richard Simpson takes honours on Ian Luccock's captain's day at Keighley

RICHARD SIMPSON carded an impressive 66 to win the overall prize during Ian Luccock's captain's day at Keighley.

Luccock, who is raising money for the Martin House Hospice, saw Jimmy Hedges take second place, two shots adrift of Simpson and on count back from Ritchie McPike.

Division One honours were scooped by David Jubb (70) on countback from Michael Rosser.

In Division Two, Luke Roberts's 69 gave him a one-shot win from Robert Grogan.

Malcolm Whitaker triumphed in Division Three by four shots with a 70, Richard Ashton the runner-up.

Nearest the pin at the eighth was Martin Cooper, while at the 14th Tim Quinlan took the honours.

The Rabbits' Guthrie Trophy was won by Martin Armitage (68), two ahead of Mick Kennady and four to the good of Andrew Sharp.

Elaine Pearson's 74 gave her victory in the Dr Neilson Qualifier, one shot ahead of Emma Watkinson, Cheryl Brown and Adele Mitchell.

The Mid Week Stableford was won by Les Sykes with 33pts, just in front of Mark Whitmarsh (32). Carl Jopson was third with 29.

Luke Roberts and Keighley professional Andrew Rhodes will represent the club in the PGA's Lombard Trophy Qualifier at Fulford. Roberts won the April Medal to qualify for the event and he and Rhodes will hope to earn a place in the Grand Final in Portugal.

The men's roll-up Stableford at Oakdale was won by Phil Schofield with 40pts. Neil Lyons made two at both the ninth and the 16th.

The Captain's nine-hole competition produced a tight finish with four players on 20pts, Elvind Brown winning on count back.

Overall winner in the Ladies Tolley and extra medal qualifier was Christine Schlegel, Oakdale's lady vice captain, with a net 69.

Division One winner was Liz Light (73), in Division Two it was Schlegel and in Division Three Paula James (78).

Easingwold's Oxmore Cup has been lifted by Brian Weightman while the Veterans' competition was won by Richard Ward and the Seniors' by Martin Platt.

Knaresborough's ladies' Coronation Foursomes has been won by Brenda Hargreaves and Kim Jones.
