But the weather worsened drastically in late afternoon and those unlucky enough to still be out on the course got a thorough drenching.

Huddersfield's Alison Tracey, who ran the event along with Willow Valley's Denise Page, commented: "Although the sun shone for most of the day the course proved a tough test for most of the ladies with no one breaking par."

Ghyll's Sam Bugler had nine pars in his round of 82-17-66 to take the Slater Centenary Trophy, one shot better than his father Bob (80-13- 67), who had to be content with the Division Two prize.

Seahan Grace (75-7-68) and Kevin Honeyman (89-21-68) were respectively the winners of Divisions One and Three.

A count back involving three couples, all with 41 Stableford points, was required to determine the result of Ghyll's Mixed Open.

Linda and Dave Smith (Nelson) were the eventual winners, while Vicki and Richard Patchett (Ilkley) and Ghyll’s current mixed winter league champions, Stephanie Robinson and Peter Rhodes, were second and third respectively..

In the Senior Men’s Open, Ghyll’s 2016 captain Alexander Russell partnered Ian Magill, whose par on the last hole to post a score of 48pts was vital in clinching victory by one point over their playing partners and defending champions, Ray Duckworth (Ghyll) and Roger Brennan (Clitheroe).

Derick Hartley (79-14-65) ran out winner in the June Senior Medal ahead of Ian Magill (79-11-68) and Andy Wilkinson (81-11- 70).

Spencer Datkiewicz (73 and 72) lifted the crouching jaguar, the impressive symbol for the Hunter Trophy played over two rounds, ahead of Robert Nesbitt (73 80), while the 2016 junior captain Jonathan Davies (74 80) and Freddie Paxton (75 79) shared third.

In the Derek Turner Memorial Trophy, Jonathan Davies, with 36pts, won on count back from Archie Paxton, whose brother Freddie was one point back in third place.

Debbie Richardson (98-28-70) won her first competition at Ghyll by taking the Thompson Trophy by an overwhelming 10 shots. Janet Whipp (111-31- 80) was second ahead of Barbara Chapman (99-19-80) and Alex Iveson (113-33-80).
