Yorkshire golf: Simon Lewis goes low to win Rabbits Captain's Day at Woodsome Hall

SIMON LEWIS won Rabbits Captain's Day at Woodsome Hall with an excellent net 64.

Lewis won from fellow 17-handicapper Adam Carter, shooting a gross 81 to Carter's 83. Third place went to Jonathan Wass, another two shots back (92-24-68).

Best Tiger was Richard Holt (64-1-63), best junior was Seb Crabtree - who replicated Lewis's 81-17-64 - and best paid-up Rabbit Richard Umbers (96-28-68).

Joe Fielding took the nearest the pin prize at the 10th and J Hewardine had the straightest drive at the 14th.

Woodsome Hall's rabbits captain Tony Parker had special thanks for the ladies' section, who manned the halfway bar.

Oakdale's men's roll-up Stableford was won by 12-handicapper Matthew Hughan with 38pts, two ahead of 18-handicapper David Spence and six better than third-placed Philip Robinson, who totalled 32 off 21.

Matthew Hewson won the Junior Putter competition with 77, three shots clear of Michael Robson, while James Robson was third on 84.

Pontefract & District are looking to introduce more children between the ages of 13 and 16 to golf.

As an HSBC Grass Roots Golf Academy they are offering new golfers a course of four lessons for just £4.

They will start on Saturday, July 16 at 1.15pm and places are limited to 10, so early booking will be required.

As part of the offer, juniors will also be invited to join the club, with fees under £50 for the remainder of the year.

Waterton Park's Order of Merit Standings after June's medal show Ryan Jennings on 82pts giving him an 18-point lead over Gordon Owen at the top with only two qualifiers to go. Chris Jennings is third on 60 pts.
