County champion Jamie Bower (Meltham) had managed only six holes and was level par for the day – remaining at five under and in a tie for third place – when a storm brought a premature end to the day’s play.

Masham’s Daniel Brown was tied sixth (71 69) and Howley Hall’s Ben Hutchinson shared ninth, two under through nine holes of his second round to be three under overall.

Australia’s Cameron Davis remained atop the leaderboard, adding a 68 to his opening 66.

Half the field still had to complete the second round when play was suspended, the start of the round having been delayed by two and a half hours after overnight storms left the Heritage course waterlogged.

Fulford’s Craig Smith, after a 68, was two over on day two after nine holes.

The Oaks’ James Walker, winner of the Selborne Salver and picked again to represent England, shot 76 68, and Welsh Youths’ champion Bailey Gill (Lindrick) 70 74.
