Halifax-Huddersfield's triumph allowed Sheffield to take over at the top with a 27-9 win against East Riding at Wath.

York captain Martin Greaves's men held a narrow 7-5 advantage after the morning foursomes against Halifax-Huddersfield, but lost 14-10 in the afternoon singles.

They had got off to a perfect start when Martin Brown (Pike Hills) and James Cass (Fulford) combined to beat the Bradley Hall duo of Elliot Lister and Sam Bridges 3&2.

Andy Hare (Bradley Hall) and Tom Hunt (Meltham) were 2&1 victors over Fulford's Jamie Miller and Mark Christie, but the home club pairing of Rob Heath and Will Adamson were far too strong for Dewsbury's Dan Hartley and Ben Crowther.

Their 6&5 win was soon added to as Fulford's Damon Coulson and Rob Moore pulled out a half against Fergus Barron (Dewsbury) and Josh Morton (Huddersfield) while Lee Bond (Fulford) and Ollie Adamson (Pike Hills) edged past Jake Hamilton (Huddersfield) and Scott Minto (Hanging Heaton) 2&1.

Chris Lone (York) and Adrian Lount (Pike Hills) went down 3&2 to Tom Calvert (Huddersfield) and Ben Adamson (Crow Nest Park) and that set up the match perfectly for the afternoon.

Hartley got Halifax & Huddersfield off to a perfect start with a 2&1 victory over Brown and Bridges won by the same margin over Christie.

But Cass came back from four down to grab a share of the spoils with Lister and when Miller - with a 2&1 win over Morton - and Coulson - 3&2 winner over Crowther - produced the goods, York looked on track for a fourth win.

The visitors dominated the middle section of the order, though, Hare and Hamilton beating Heath and Will Adamson 3&2 and 4&3 respectively.

Moore recovered from a late deficit to take a half from his game with Minto but, with Lone trailing in the final match, the writing was on the wall.

Bond lost 3&2 to Hunt and although Ollie Adamson (3&1 over Ben Adamson) and Lount (one up over Calvert) both won, York's defeat was confirmed when Barron eagled the par-5 17th to beat Lone 2&1.

Sheffield - beaten by York in the first weekend of the season - led 8-4 at halfway against East Riding before Neil Stones’s side dominated the singles 19-5, only two matches going against them while Lindrick’s Nathan Fell halved with Brough’s Mark Woodall.

The top four singles all went Sheffield's way - through Ben Brewster, Alex Fitzpatrick, Jamie Harrison and Gary Fullwood, setting the tone for the afternoon.
