Yorkshire golf: YUGC invite applications to attend under-13s coaching day at Sandburn Hall

YORKSHIRE Union of Golf Clubs are to hold an under-13 boys' day at Sandburn Hall, York, on August 8 as part of their highly successful coaching process that has helped produce such players as Masters winner Danny Willett and the British Masters and Nordea Masters champion Matt Fitzpatrick.

Boys with a handicap of 25 or less who were 12 years or under as of January 1 this year can apply to take part in a day that will include a nine-hole stroke play competition, and golf skills competitions involving the long game, chipping and pitching, and putting.

The boys will be divided into small groups, each under the direction of one of the county’s coaches, who have also helped assist the past two English men’s champions in Huddersfield’s Nick Marsh and Lindrick’s Joe Dean.

“The day will be very informative – and good fun,” says the YUGC secretary Keith Dowswell.

“The lads will hit lots of balls, receive the very best coaching and, perhaps, rub shoulders with some of the county’s leading players.”

The coaches will assess the players’ skills and offer advice as to how to improve them. A particularly useful aspect of the day will involve being given pointers on how to practice effectively while also making it enjoyable and competitive.

Numbers will be limited to 30 and, should the amount of applications exceed this figure, acceptances will be based on age and handicap.

All children will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for the child throughout the day.

Registration will start at 8am and the course itself at 8.30.
