Laugher, who hails from Ripon, has been battling injury while Mears has spoken candidly about mental health – and the personal demons he had to overcome – after the glory of Rio in 2016. This mattered.
A third gold at the Games for Laugher after two individual wins, Yorkshire was left fifth in the medal table and above the likes of New Zealand. Talk about a sporting powerhouse.
