Yorkshire rider Swift welcomes Cavendish to Team Sky

World champion Mark Cavendish has completed his much-anticipated move to Team Sky. The 26-year-old Manxman, a product of the British Cycling performance programme, will race for the British-based team from next year.

Dave Brailsford, Team Sky principal who also doubles as British Cycling’s performance director, said: “Mark is a born winner. We want to inspire more fans to get into cycling and I can think of no-one better to help us.”

Rotherham’s Ben Swift, who has netted five sprint wins himself this season, is relishing riding alongside the world champion.

He said: “The young sprinters here are always looking to learn and having someone like Cav on the team is going to help.

“Seeing how he goes about things on a daily basis will be really good for me personally and he’s always happy to give tips and advice. It’s great to have him on the team.”
