Yorkshire trio are hoping to be included in India's bidding war

TIM BRESNAN, Adil Rashid and Anthony McGrath will discover today whether they will be part of the lucrative third Indian Premier League auction.

The Yorkshire cricketers have put themselves forward for the money-spinning Twenty20 tournament, which runs from March 12 to April 25.

Yorkshire County Cricket Club have stipulated the trio must be available for the start of their county championship season at Edgbaston on April 9, leaving them only a small window of opportunity to play IPL.

The players are among 97 star names hoping to cash in on the Twenty20 revolution, with the IPL franchises set to decide today which of those players they want to go through to the auction on January 19.

Yorkshire's chief executive Stewart Regan commented: "The three Yorkshire players asked if we had any objections about them putting their names forward for IPL and we said no, provided they are available for our first game on April 9.

"It would be a great opportunity for them and we wouldn't want to stand in their way, just so long as it didn't have a detrimental effect on Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

"The players would clearly miss our pre-season campaign but myself and director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon have talked about that and decided it wouldn't be a problem because those players would be playing competitive cricket in any case and getting in plenty of practice.

"The three lads fully understand the situation and what we've tried to do is find a middle ground that suits everyone, although it remains to be seen whether they will be chosen for IPL considering they would not be available for the whole IPL season."

Regan revealed Yorkshire would be entitled to compensation if any of their players were chosen for IPL.

"That would be the case even if they were back with us for April 9 because they are still under contract to Yorkshire and would be missing our pre-season," he added.

"It's impossible to say how much that compensation would be or even to speculate on a potential figure, because there are lots of financial variables in IPL.

"It's also open to speculation how much the players themselves would earn.

"Last time, the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff went for over $1m, for example, so it all depends on the perceived values of players to the franchises."

If chosen for IPL, Bresnan, Rashid and McGrath would miss Yorkshire's pre-season trip to Barbados.

The club have confirmed they will be flying to the Caribbean in March for two weeks of warm-up games and practice.

Yorkshire have confirmed the departure of off-spinner James Finch. The 21-year-old has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by after falling behind the likes of Rashid, David Wainwright and Azeem Rafiq in the spin bowling pecking-order.
