Yorkshire Boys’ champion Fitzpatrick had qualified in second place from the stroke play section with scores of 68 69. He recorded a comfortable 5&3 win against Frilford Heath’s Nicholas Elmey.

Hay, whose rounds of 71 73 saw him qualify in 25th place, had to hold his nerve before defeating Denmark’s Rasmus Neergard-Petersen at the third extra hole.

Last year, Fulford’s Charlie Thornton reached the last eight of the event at Muirfield on his way to topping the British Boy’s order of merit.
