Watford v Huddersfield Town – Winger Rolando Aarons keen to get up to speed at Terriers

The winger was due to join in October, but a move from Newcastle United could not be completed before the deadline. He knew Town would be back.

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday loanee’s work with a private sprint coach and physio paid dividends because Corberan is extremely finickity about when he allows players to pull on the blue-and-white stripes yet he deemed Aarons ready for a quick FA Cup debut last week and he will be in today’s squad at Watford too.

“The club made it very clear where they stood,” says Aarons. “I kept in communication and was always aware this was a possibility in January, so I was prepared. When you don’t know your situation it’s a lot harder to keep motivated but this was a lot easier.

“The coaching, how it’s been run, how they want me to play, it’s a perfect fit for me.

“I was training with the (Newcastle) Under-23s because I wasn’t in the 25-man first-team squad. (Coaches) Peter Ramage and Chris Hogg understood my situation and tried to help as much as they could.

“I was doing extra sessions with Martin Sunderland, a sprint coach, a couple of times a week and stuff with my own physio.”

Having seen every Huddersfield game in that time, he knows what is coming.

“We had a meeting on Wednesday for an hour and another one yesterday for 45 minutes and I’ve had three meetings with Carlos,” says Aarons. “I’ve never really had a coach this... intense probably isn’t the right word, but prepared for every single scenario on the pitch. It makes it a lot easier.

“The club’s got a clear philosophy so it’s just me buying into it and learning it as soon possible. It suits my game so it’s more adapting to the team than changing.”
