Eureka! It’s Christmas - National Children’s Museum, Halifax (Weekends until December 23)



Ideal for children aged three to seven, there will be an interactive Night Lights show - exploring the wonders of hiding in light and shadows - and the prospect of visiting the grotto.

Christmas Underground - National Coal Mining Museum, Overton (Weekends until December 23)

Put on a helmet and lamp then follow the walkway to meet Santa underground. It is the first time that school and toddler groups can visit him here.

Afternoon Tea - Tropical Butterfly House, Sheffield (Until December 27)

Enjoy a special festive tea and take in the sights of the Wildlife Centre. Visit the nativity scene in the cosy stable and meet friendly farm animals.

Winter at Flamingo Land - Malton (Until March 6)

Santa will visit over the school holidays while families can watch animals enjoying feeding time. Have up-close encounters with the lemurs and wallabies.

Diggerland - Castleford (Until December 25)

A Christmas gift voucher provides a chance for a special day at the adventure park. Visiting Diggerland can boost confidence and co-ordination.

Christmas Weekend - National Emergency Services Museum, Sheffield (December 19-20)

Go for a spin in a fire engine, eat mince pies served around a log fire and meet the museum’s mascots.

Xscape - Castleford (Until December 24)

The snow slope is an ideal location to get into the Christmas spirit with skiing and snowboarding. Santa and his elves will be there on weekends.

59 Minutes to Save Christmas - Sheffield (December 19)

Leeds-based theatre company Slung Low originally created this show for London’s Barbican but are bringing it back to Yorkshire, at the Sheffield Crucible, this year.
