Redcar Town Council last night decided that the new open-air swimming pool now nearing completion, should be open for bathing on Sundays from 6.30 to 9.00 in the morning, and from 2 to 5 in the afternoon.

Lord Lonsdale has shown further proof of his interest in Doncaster by consenting to open the new infirmary. The date has not been settled, and will depend his Lordship’s engagements.

Driffield Rural Council yesterday appointed Mr. Richard Barker, of Northallerton, as Assistant Clerk of the Council, at a salary of £2OO per annum.

Horse Attack on Sheep.

In a field on Blencathra Mountain, Lakeland, yesterday, a horse was seen, for no apparent reason, to lift full-grown sheep onto its hind legs, swing it round its head, drop it, pick it up again, and throw it down and trample on it.

The sheep was found to have a broken leg.

German trawlers have started on the Bear Island fishery, and the Oscar Neynaber, which arrived in Grimsby, yesterday, landed catch of 1,800 boxes, which sold for £5OO.

Thomas Riley, young unemployed labourer from South Shields, receiving instruction in training camp at Carshalton, was yesterday presented with the Royal Humane Society’s certificate for saving the life of a little girl from drowning at South Shields.

Water shortage on the East Yorkshire Wolds was referred to at the meeting yesterday of the Driffield Rural Council, whose jurisdiction extends over a great part of the area, hut in view of the East Riding County Council’s coming survey of the whole position, no action was taken.

Zana, the Labrador bitch owned by Miss A. M. Hayes, of Brinkhill, near Spilsby, has won 26 awards at eight shows, including ten first prizes, eight seconds, four thirds and four specials.
