One hundred members of the Halifax Licensed Victuallers’ Association have agreed that public houses shall close Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week and from Friday onwards, houses shall open from noon to and from 8 p.m.

Mr. W, H. Garfitt, secretary of the Association, says: “Our aim is to obviate the flocking of people from one public house to another and the terrific congestion in those that are open. If this is avoided, trade can kept a reasonable level.”

It is pointed out that the arrangement is not a hard and fast one and that if a licensee is in a position to extend his hours of opening he is at liberty to do so.
