Bradford likes its Foreign Workers

Miners’ officials who are hesitant about allowing foreign labour to work in British pits, might find a visit to Bradford instructive.

For Bradford has more foreign workers than any other town of comparable size. And Bradford is well suited with them.

From all sides come favourable reports of how they have fitted into the social fabric of the city. And there has been quite number mixed marriages.

Miss E. Graggs, Welfare Officer at a large textile concern, which employs foreign labour, told The Yorkshire Post:

“Many have struggled hard to build up a home in Bradford, and they are very popular with their colleagues.”

Miss Craggs said Italians were brought to Bradford on yearly contracts with the option to renew at the end of the 12 months.

“Some return home and then write to me wanting to come back. Others stay on for quite a number of years.”

An official of Bradford Employment Exchange said: “There are very few complaints about foreign workers — certainly no more than there are about their English counterparts.”
